joint Master’s Commission: Who We Are

“The beginning”
JMC was birthed out of a desire to see a young generation equipped and transformed to be world changers for Jesus Christ. The leadership at Jubilee Worship Center wanted to start a training program so that its youth did not have to go to another place to be raised up in the things of God. They decided to get things started by becoming an affiliate of Master’s Commission International*, a nine-month, full-time, local church-based, intensive discipleship and equipping program. It was then that Jubilee Master’s Commission (JMC) began with just three disciples in 2005 under the leadership of Nate Elznic. (You can learn more about Nate and the rest of the staff under the staff link).

“It’s about a lifestyle”
Nate’s vision for JMC is for each disciple to be equipped for life. This means more than just studying from a textbook: it means learning principles for everyday life; including physical exercise, healthy eating habits, good work ethic, being vulnerable in relationships, living your life for the next generation, taking dominion over your thought life, living in abundant joy, etc. God doesn’t just save us from Hell, He saves us so we can have life, and have it more abundantly (John 10:10). Many Christians live their lives just “holding on” and don’t realize their full potential in Christ; that they have the Holy Spirit in them working on their behalf to change and transform the world (Acts 1:8; Matt 28:19-20). It is JMC’s desire for its disciples to more fully realize their value and potential in Christ so that they can experience life to the fullest.

“We’re all about family & believing in each other”
One of the best ways, we believe, to equip a believer in his/her identity, potential and calling is through relationship, through family. At JMC each disciple learns what it means to be connected with his/her fellow brothers and sisters in Christ. Disciples learn how to go deep and be vulnerable. In this fatherless generation many are seeking true relationship but are turning to the wrong things to find it. Healing starts by learning our identity from our Father God through relationship with Him. Then, as the Body of Christ, we hold each other accountable and encourage one another in love to walk out who we truly are. It can be challenging to be real and it takes courage to overcome our fears of rejection, but in this risk there comes great freedom.

“Learn by experience..and learn to work hard!”
Another major aspect of JMC is volunteer serving. Why do we feel this is so vital? We believe that the way to have the best learning experience is not primarily through study alone, but in hands-on training. As disciples serve they are exposed to the many “curve balls” that life may through at them that they would not otherwise learn how to deal with by reading a book. There is a knowledge that comes only by experience. At JMC disciples learn to work hard. If this sounds painful to you, good! It’s easy to let life slip by; it’s easy to not work and let things come to you. JMC may not be easy or comfortable to your flesh, but when was the last time your flesh did anything good for you?

“What about your education? Why aren’t we accredited?”
Master’s Commission is not an accredited school. Many are deterred by this because accreditation can give disciples more of an opportunity for jobs and also allows them to help pay for school by being eligible for financial aid.
In 2009 we explored partnering with a college so we could offer accredited courses. After some time and thought, we decided against it. We realized that the heart and focus of our Master’s Commission is not to be like a college or to replace college, but rather, like stated earlier, to equip the believer in life skills (that aren’t usually taught in college). We are not against going to college, in fact, we encourage it! We desire each student to be the best he/she can be in their area of interest!
Our vision is to train each student so they can go in to college, or wherever they are called, with a purpose, passion and focus, knowing what they are called to do and therefore able to get the most out of their education. In today’s world there are many who go to college not knowing what they want and end up working in a field completely different than their major. Our goal is to see students going in confident, knowing what they want, and being successful at it!

“Come discover your potential…”
So, why does JMC exist: Because you were born for such a time as this! You are a history maker and a world changer and you are called to advance the Kingdom of God on earth. In a world where many only see dry bones, we see an army, we see potential. What would happen if you feared nothing? The possibilities are endless and your potential is limitless. Come and see what you and your God are made of.

*Master’s Commission International is a ministry which began in 1984 at Phoenix First Assembly whose mission is to know God and to make Him known. Since then the ministry has grown to have more than 90 affiliates across the world (www.mcin.org).
